Analog and mixed-signal IC design, from first principles to silicon.

I design ultra-low-power analog and mixed-signal circuits and help engineering teams unblock complex work across architecture, physical implementation, verification and tapeout. My work combines hands-on circuit design, technical delivery and AI-assisted engineering workflows.

AI-Assisted IC Design & Layout

One line of work: AI agents that design and lay out circuits against executable criteria, with the engineer setting the goals and judging the results. Two pillars carry it; the standard-cell case study below is the result it has already produced.

Analog & Mixed-Signal Design

Executable specifications, simulation loops and continuous verification applied to analog and mixed-signal development, so that every change to a requirement reruns the checks it affects.

In development. Tried so far on analog blocks in simulation. No mixed-signal chip designed autonomously by AI has been delivered. Where this is going.

Physical Layout

AI agents working with layout generation, measurement and physical verification feedback, with DRC and LVS as executable acceptance criteria.

Demonstrated on a standard-cell library, in the case study below.

AI-assisted standard-cell generation: an autonomous DRC/LVS-driven loop

Problem
Extending a hand-drawn standard-cell library requires more manual layout work for each new variant.
Role
I set goals and acceptance criteria, reviewed results and directed the AI agent between autonomous iterations.
Work
I used an AI agent to adapt LibreCell through a loop of generation, DRC/LVS verification, measurement and tool refinement, with continuous checks after changes.
Outcome
Generated library area within approximately 4% of the hand-drawn reference, with LVS matching on every cell. Remaining DRC violations are documented in the article.

Background

I have worked in electronics since 2001 and in integrated-circuit design since 2009, across Portugal, Norway and Denmark. My experience spans ultra-low-power IoT, precision audio, industrial sensing and semiconductor design infrastructure.

I remain a hands-on designer, but much of my work also involves making complex engineering programmes executable: clarifying technical decisions, connecting disciplines, building effective teams and creating verification systems that expose problems early.

I completed a dual Executive MBA at Porto Business School and Kozminski University in 2026. It complements the engineering work by giving me a stronger framework for the product, investment and commercial decisions around it.
